Our Programs
Children between the ages of 18 months and 3 years join the CMS community in our cheerful and enlightening Toddler program. Experienced teachers guide our youngest students through mornings filled with discovery, peace, and wonder.
In the CMS Toddler Program, we maintain an organized and safe environment designed to develop each student’s receptive and expressive communication, fine and gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and executive functioning skills. At this level, students are concentrating on tasks relating to "care of self," "care of the environment," and "grace and courtesy."
From three year olds to Kindergarten, children move from an unconscious absorbent mind to a conscious absorbent mind. The Primary program at CMS responds to the rapid physical, intellectual, and social development that hallmark this period in a child’s life.
The CMS Primary program enlightens and encourages self-sufficiency through our curriculum of practical life, sensory work, language, and mathematics. Our highly-trained teachers offer students personalized lessons on new materials, emphasizing the steps involved so children have a complete understanding of the work’s process. Once students have received a lesson on a particular work, they are free to select that work for themselves.
In the vibrant CMS Elementary program, Lower and Upper Elementary students learn together. CMS places great emphasis on each student having an active, solution-focused, positive impact on our community. Elementary students are given the opportunity to serve as guides, practicing self-advocacy and performing acts of service. In multi-age group settings like the CMS Elementary program, the students have a multitude of opportunities to further their academic progress through dynamic interactions with teachers and peers.
The CMS Elementary curriculum strikes the balance of meeting students’ increasing social needs while continuing to sustain periods of focus during the work cycle. This balance is a cornerstone of the Montessori philosophy.
Assisted by their imaginations and reason, CMS Elementary students become explorers of the world, learning how to coexist in a respectful, harmonious, and joyful way.
At Coastal Montessori our Mission is to create a student-led learning environment that deepens each child’s ability to thrive as independent global citizens, shaped by Montessori teaching and values, while practicing respect for self, community, and the environment.
